Trying to understand the 'find' feature

I have noticed two things that I find strange. They may or may not be bugs, so please enlighten me.

First, it sometimes takes four or five clicks of the [x] button to close the find box. Sometimes I have to click elsewhere, then click the button. Is this intentional?

Second, if I turn the find box off, then back on, and there's still a search term in it, how do I reactivate that search? I tried clicking on the box and hitting enter. I ended up having to clear the box, retype the term, then hit enter. Is there another way?

Do you mean [x] to clear the search text? It should not need a few clicks but if Lightroom is very busy searching and updating the panels with number of found photos then it might. How many photos are in the catalog?

By turning the find box off do you mean unchecking the box next to "Text"? If that is the case, checking it again should restart the search operation.

Thank you, Mick. That's how I would expect it to work as well, but often it doesn't cooperate. I don't think it's a matter of Lightroom being busy, though.

I think you will find the problem relates to the accuracy of hitting the 'X' in the box!

I also experienced the problem exactly as you describe. It is not sufficient for the cursor to be in the box when you click, but it has to be smack on the centre of the 'X'. Give it a try!

I hadn't notice this before, but Lawrence hits the nail on the head.

The selection area and the "X" box are not contiguous (WinXP).

I've experimented a little, and attached a screen cap of the active area.

When you're in the right spot, the mouse changes from the "select" cursor to the "link select" cursor, (on my plain vanilla install, from an arrow to a pointing finger.)
