  • The November 2019 Lightroom updates are now available. Lightroom Classic includes the ability to export the same photos as multiple sizes/formats in a single export, content aware fill for panorama edges and more. It does require a catalog format upgrade and there are updated system requirements, so you may want to wait a few days before upgrading.
Lightroom (cloud-based service) has export options (such as TIFF format, renaming and color space), custom sort order on the desktop, copy/paste to multiple photos on iOS and more.
The Missing FAQ and Edit Like a Pro eBooks are already updated for the changes.
  • Stop struggling with Lightroom! There's no need to spend hours hunting for the answers to your Lightroom Classic questions. All the information you need is in Adobe Lightroom Classic - The Missing FAQ!

To help you get started, there's a series of easy tutorials to guide you through a simple workflow. As you grow in confidence, the book switches to a conversational FAQ format, so you can quickly find answers to advanced questions. And better still, the eBooks are updated for every release, so it's always up to date.

Import Trying to import from SD card ONLY the pix I didn't sync from LR/Mobile - NOT WORKING

Lightroom Classic version: 8.3.1 [ 201905241238-dcd7e2de ]
Operating System
macOS 10.14 Mojave
I devised a workflow for my vacation using my new iPad Pro, where I would load photos to LR/Ios, delete the so-so ones, and post the good ones to social media. My aim was to then sync those photos back to my LR Classic/MacOS when I got home, make them look like normal LR Classic pix (and remove them from LRCC sync), and then Import all the remaining pix I had skipped on the road, direct from the camera card.

So far so good on the road, it worked and I had a lot of fun as we traveled. I ran out of Cloud storage at the end, so had to upgrade once home, and then finish sync-ing - a 3-day nightmare on my slow connection, but I got it done. Then sync'd the pix down to LR Classic on my Mac, and I was ready.

I renamed the synced pix in the LRCC storage area to my LRClassic convention (date-cameraname). Then, to test the approach, moved ONE picture from the LRCC disk tree into the LRClassic disk folder tree. And removed it from the All Synced Pictures album. *Should* now be a standard LRClassic picture right? Just as if I had imported it direct from the card, but with all my edits from when I was on the road? I was hoping I could just Import all the pix off the original camera card, and LRClassic would skip the ones I had already loaded from LR/Ios.

No joy. LRClassic does not recognize the picture I had imported from LR/Ios as one that was already present; it wants to reimport it from the card. (Skipping duplicates normally works fine for me, so I know the basic feature works.) I have checked the Original Names (identical), the creation date and time (identical) and the file size (identical, but BTW different from what Finder reports as the size). So why isn't this working? What can I do?

I feel this could be a really nice workflow for folks who want to do useful photo development on the road, then leverage that once home. But only if it works!

So, hope you can help! Thanks

Hi @CharlesByron,

Did you rename all the images that you imported into LR Mobile before you tried to import the rest directly into you desktop?

That could be the problem as I believe that the duplicate detection is based on file name and time stamp.

More info for sleuths:
I imported the duplicate picture so I could look at both sets of metadata. The "sync'd" version has:
File Name: "20190625-_DSC0434.ARW"
Original Filename: "_DSC0434.ARW"
File Size: 23.83MB
Date Time Original: 6/25/19 3:03:56 PM
and it also has:
Sidecar Files: XMP

The duplicate (imported off the SD card after the above file was sync'd to LR Classic) has:
File Name: "20190625-_DSC0434-2.ARW"
There is NO Original Name listed (on the SD card it is "_DSC0434.ARW"
File Size: 23.83MB
Date Time Original: 6/25/19 3:03:56 PM

Hope this helps

I've seen you've put in a bug report. That's exactly what I would have suggested.

I suspect the glitch is that sync isn't writing the "Import Hash" that the duplicate detection checks against.
