trouble with raw

When I use raw my prints come out flat, as if red is desaturated. It does not occur with jpeg. I use nikond 8'. I have tried to set it with sRGB and adobeRGB. I use PSE5 to print. When I use LT to print I get terrible results. Which is another topic. I would primarily like to get the raw situation fixed. Is it a camera setting? or LT setting?

First, welcome to Lightroom Forums!

You don't say anthing about your printer, computer or OS, so it's difficult to know where to start.

More than likely there's a problem with your printer driver and profiles setup.
LR is designed to operate in a completely color managed/calibrated environment which can be tricky to set up depending upon the printer mfgr.

If you could tell us more about your setup, that would help. Lots of folks put those details in a signature block, so it's easy for any responders to see. Access that through User CP at upper left.

Thanks Brad, my question is really one about Raw. I have been printing thought Photoshop E5, and when I start with a photo shot in jpeg's it does fine. My problem is with raw. I process in LR1.3, save in jpeg or tiff, usually tiff if it is from raw to preserve the quality then open in PE5 to print. When I shoot in raw and print, the prints are flat, as if desaturated of reds. It does not matter if it is saved to jpeg of tiff. The photos look great on the monitor and if I post them on a website.

The quality does not seem to pass through when they are printed.
I also sent a sample to costco to print and they came out flat.
The LR printing is a nother issue, I will have to look into the threads you suggest.

Voyta, When you say they look great on the monitor, with what application/program are you viewing them? LR, PSE, something else?

It really does not matter how I view them they look good, in regard to the color and saturation, LR, PSE, windows veiwer, internet etc. I almost all cases I have made changes to it in LR to enhance it.

By the way your link for the Printer Color Problems had no attachment. It may be helpfull to me in the future.

Aaah, OK, that link was to a forum search results page, which is apparently dynamic, and disappeared when I logged off.

Here's what I did to generate the list:

Click on "Search v" on the Forum toolbar at upper right, under Search Forums enter these keywords: "printer profile", select "Show threads", and click "GO".

This should come back with the same list that I was trying to refer you to.

I have read that some Nikons have trouble with LR. Is there a way to make sure the camera and LR are in sync?
Do you think LR1.4 would make a difference?

If you can import your D8' photos in Lightroom 1.3 then the D8' is older than that version and 1.4 won't change it. Altough, I recommend to upgrade to the very stable 1.4.1 version.

We can not tell you a simple do this and do that solution until you explain what you do step by step. Only then we will be able to tell where you do wrong.

If you are willing to stick with me we can take a shot at it.

I shoot in raw with a Nikon D8', I change the WB for the specific situation-not auto-. Import into secondary HD disc/file. From LR import from disc-import from current location-
Usually use Develop module to make changes etc.
export to disc, usually saving as Tiff, sometimes as jpeg adobeRBG 3''ppi.,
that to another file.
I export in 8bit, no compression
I then will use PE5 to make some other minor changes, clone stamp, etc
Sometimes if I have not cropped I will do so then to fit the paper I am to print on. I stepwise downscale to 3''ppi if needed.
The color on PE5 is set on AdobeRGB.

Hope this helps. I am not sure there is an easy solution.
