  • The May 2019 Lightroom updates are now available. There's a brand new slider called Texture, available across the whole family of apps. Lightroom Classic includes a new tool called Flat Field Correction. Lightroom (cloud-based service) has lots of big improvements including cloud trash, invitation-only web galleries, improved chromatic aberration removal and more. The Missing FAQ and Edit Like a Pro eBooks are already updated for the changes. You'll also notice the CC's have disappeared off the end of the names, so we've updated the forum names to match.

Hi,
I am in the process of upgrading from a mid 2012 Macbook Pro 13 to a Dell XPS 15 PC. I'm running Lightroom 4 on the Mac at the moment but I plan to subscribe to the Creative Cloud Photography Plan and install Lightroom Classic CC on the new PC.
There are lots of tutorials on-line that outline how to transfer a catalogue between a Mac and a PC (and it all looks fairly painless). My question is, should I go directly from LR4 on the Mac to LR Classic CC on the PC, or should I set up LR4 first on the PC, transfer my catalogue, and then upgrade to LR Classic CC. For background, my Mac didn't like the most recent operating system upgrade and has been running a little unstable since the last failed attempt to upgrade (and my Mac skills aren't really up to troubleshooting the issue), so I'm reluctant to go down the route of first updating to LR Classic CC on the Mac and then transferring to the PC.
If anyone out there has successfully jumped operating systems and updated to a new version of LR simultaneously, I'd be interested to hear their advice.

Thanks,
Kevin.

No reason to install Lr4 on the PC or upgrade on the Mac. Simply copy the catalog folder (and the images) to the PC, install Lightroom Classic on the PC and open the old catalog with Lightroom Classic. It will upgrade catalog and then you're good to go. You will have to 'reconnect' the images because Macs use a disk name and Windows uses drive letters, but that's all there is to it.

Thanks very much Johan. Sounds easy! I'll let you know how I get on
