Transfering Photos from One External to Another

my existing external hard drive is full and i need to move my photos from the old one to the new one. how do i do this and still keep the edits that i have made on these photos in lightroom. the last time i tried, the photos imported into lightroom w/o a problem but they did not have the edits i made on them in when using my old external hard drive. i attempted to import lightroom catalog but nothing happened. can someone help me with this issue? thanks

The best solution is to move them using LR. How will depend on which version you are using.

If you use LR to move them, double check that they've all moved before you delete.

I'd go about it slightly differently to Geoff. I'd make sure LR showed a tidy folder hierarchy, and then use the OS or file sync software to transfer the files. Then I'd right click the parent file within LR and relocate that folder.

At the end of the day, either will work as long as you're careful.
