Transfer LR 1.4 catologue etc to new computer

O.K. I've finally bit the bullet and ordered new computer XP based with heaps of storage, and a lot more power than current 5 year old Pentium 4 machine.

Number of issues I guess but main ones revolve around
1. Do I install LR ver 1 from disk and then upgrade to 1.4.1 via downloads I have kept.:?

2. Transfer photos, catalogue and library from backup files. Will I get any problems due to renamed drives for instance.

3. While I'm at it can I rename the Database files, they are currently held in a folder with the rather wierd name 2''8.'3.29 1454. Several backups have equally crytic names.

4. Lot of work to rebuild 2',''' pic catalogue:roll:

1. Install V1.'. I'm not sure if you'll have to do all the individual steps, so try the 1.41 upgrade first.

2. I'd say get an external drive, and Export as Catalog to it, with previews and negatives. Then create a new catalog on the new machiine and from there Import from Catalog from the external Drive.

3. You can rename the database, I think you may need to change the name of the previews to match though (not 1''% on that).

4. The above method will only take time..
