I finally decided to upgrade to ver 2.1. Got it installed and running and mostly it seems OK. However, I had created a series of camera calibration presets for each camera that I have used and saved those presets in ver 1.4.1 so that when I import an image, it applies the correct calibration, depending on which camera was used. The question is, can I transfer those calibration presets to ver 2.1? If so, how do I do it? Thanks,

Are you referring to Develop Presets? I ask that because the term 'camera calibration' has a very specific meaning in Lr, which doesn't exactly fit the context of your question.

Hmmm, following a standard upgrade those old presets should be automatically available in the new version.

Look in the following location for them, and see if you notice anything weird.

x:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Adobe\Lightroom\Develop Presets

note that the 'Lightroom' portion of the path is not version specific.

Also note that in a default Windows installation, portions of that folder path are 'hidden' by Windows. If so, Control Panel > Folder Options > View tab > select the radio button on 'Show hidden files/folders'

Thanks for answering, Brad, but no, I'm not referring to develop presets. Apparently, I wasn't being clear enough. I do have develop presets, which transferred OK when I moved from 1.4.1 to 2.1. What I'm referring to are camera calibration defaults. In 1.4.1, I created defaults for each camera I use by running through a script in PS. The default hue and saturation values for each camera were then entered for a single raw image in LR and saved as a default for that camera. These values are subsequently automatically applied to each image from that camera as it is imported.

When I upgraded to LR 2.1, I noticed that all of my images are zeroed out in hue and saturation, ie. the new version apparently does not know about the default values for each camera that were entered into ver 1.4.1. So, I'd like to know if there's a way to move those defaults from one version to the next. If not, do I have to re-enter all of the values and save them as defaults again? And, if I do that, can I (should I) re-assign those values to the existing images?

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding what's happening, because I would have thought the values for existing images would have been carried over in the catalog conversion. Any help in understanding what's happened, or insight into how I should proceed greatly appreciated.

That's why I asked whether you really meant 'camera calibration', and then answered the easy question.

I'm going to have to pass; I've never done one of those script based cals in either version. I don't know how the transfer would/should have worked on a version upgrade.

Have you looked into the new recommended way of addressing camera calibration, with the Adobe DNG Profile Editor, along with the updated beta versions of Adobe standard profiles, with custom camera-matching profiles for numerous Nikon and Canon models?
I believe there's a calibration mode, somewhat comparable to the PS script method, embedded in that. Again, I'm speaking from 'book-learning' rather than practical experience.

When you entered those Camera Calibrations, to save them as defaults you would have had to save them as Presets, which you would then have applied on Import or sets as defaults.
So they should be in the folder Brad mentioned and could be reapplied.
However if the images were saved with xmp or as DNGs then they should have retained those settings. Did you move anything during the upgrade?

You wouldn't have had to save them as presets to change the defaults - so yes, I see your dilemma! I'd go with Brad's recommendation of using the new Profile Editor to save them for the future.

Why LR isn't finding them now, I'm not sure, because I can't think of anything in the upgrade that would change it.

Good news for you though - the defaults are shared with ACR, therefore they're not in LR's own folders - however they are in ACR's folders.

They're saved as xmp files, so you can always open them with a text editor if you need to. I've checked the Mac location, but had to take a guess at the Windows locations, so feel free to correct me please anyone!

Windows XP - [systemdrive]\Documents and Settings\[your username]\Application
Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\Defaults\

Windows Vista - [systemdrive]\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Adobe
\CameraRaw\Defaults\

Mac - [systemdrive]/Users/[your username]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/Defaults

Perhaps what I should have said was that you should have saved them as Presets, so you always have a copy lying around!

Now that is excellent advice Richard!!!!

Thanks everybody for your usual, quick assistance. You're awesome, all of you!

I think I've got it sorted now; as usual, the problem was mostly operator error. The problem is that I run LR on two computers at two different locations. The calibration defaults were only used on computer A. I recently copied all of the presets, preferences, catalog, etc. from computer A to computer B (both running LR 1.4.1). I even copied the Camera Raw settings folder. Then, I upgraded computer B to LR 2.1 first because it's not my primary image manipulation system (because I'm fundamentally a belt and suspenders kind of guy). Not knowing that the calibration defaults were stored in CR, I did not copy over the defaults folder, so the calibration defaults did not exist on computer B when I did the upgrade. Surprise of surprises, they didn't exist after the upgrade either. Duh! And yes, Victoria, you did have the path correct for XP.

So, now I have the choice of waiting until I get back to the location of computer A to copy the defaults folder of CR, or of entering the data manually for each camera again (I still have all of the numbers). Not a big deal, as it's only about 6 cameras.

I haven't downloaded the new camera-specific presets yet, because I'm pretty happy with the ones I created and I'm just beginning to learn what's new in 2.1. However, something I read recently leads me to think that I could use the new mechanism to load my own calibration values. Do I have that right? Can anyone point me to directions for doing that? Thanks again,

There's a lot of FAQs available/linked at that link in my first post.

There's also a dedicated Adobe U2U forum at:

DNG User to User Forum

Don't worry about the 'DNG' in the title, this is pertinent to all file types, it just happens to administered within the DNG team effort.

Thanks Brad, I'll check them out. Having entered the appropriate calibration data, I'm now happily churning out images in 2.1. Lots more to learn, I'm sure. Cheers,
