Tiff transparent file in LR

If I edit in PS from lightroom, make a transparent tiff file, then I find if I open in PS again it is not transparent. If I export file it is not transparent. It seems I have to export the file, then open in PS and make transparent.
Am I understanding this correctly?

Are you opening file with LR adjustments or the original file, when opening from LR?
If you open original file into PS, then you should still see you transparency. If opening with LR adjustments then it's a flattened version you will see - which will remove transparency. I do not tend to open PSDs or Tiffs with LR Adjustments for that reason. When opting to edit in PS, you get to choose which option you want, original or copy with LR adjustments.
My workflow is to adjust in LR, then do other non-LR type work in PS and that is the finished file.

that is what I was doing. shame on me for not paying attention. You are right. I was opening with LR adjustments. By the way, it appears if you export you also flatten file and lose transparency. So I guess you would open in PS, and do save as to end up with a tiff with transparency out of LR.

So do you not bring back into LR the finished file? I am thinking that my comment above about opening in PS without LR adjustments then saving outside of LR looses all the LR adjustments. Also exporting causes file to flatten. So the question is how to I get my image out of LR with LR adjustments and transparency, or do I?

I think it is impossible to get a transparent photo with LR adjustments out of LR. If you use edit in PS you have to not include LR adjustments in order to keep transparency. If you export you lose transparency.
I suppose the solution is to not bother to save a layered tranparent photo back to LR, but wait and apply after it has been exported. Anyone know if I am correct on this?

Applying LR adjustments always flattens, so yes, do your LR adjustments before you do your transparency.

So the question is how to I get my image out of LR with LR adjustments and transparency, or do I?

Open original file that has been altered in LR into PS. After editing in PS, then save - which will be as PSD or TIFF depending on how your LR prefs are set up.
LR should now see the edited file, which can contain transparency.

To answer further I need to know in what context you need transparency preserving
