Hi folks,

I was today contacted by my hosting provider and informed that this website is greatly exceeding its allotted resources. They've provided the below graph:

321.jpg

The graph represents The Turning Gate's CPU usage over the past week, compared to the normal CPU usage of your average website. The yellow line is normal, whilst the red line is me. And that, I'm told, is a problem.

My host has recommended two possible dedicated server solutions, but I can afford neither solution. I've contacted my host regarding other options and await their reply. But if my site disappears in the meantime, that's why.

Should this occur, inquiries relating to my Lightroom galleries should be made here and I'll try to get them back online as soon as I'm able. The new location of these resources, if a new location becomes necessary, will also be announced here.

I'll update on the situation as I'm able. In the meantime, wish me luck.

Cheers,
Matt

Wow Matt, what a problem being so popular!

Matt, check your PM's

Don

Matt, a problem that is an acknowledgement of the great work you have put in to make your talent and skills available to all.
Thank you.

Thanks for the advice in the PMs guys. I'll take it under advisement.

I'm now told I've had nearly 2,''',''' hits during the month of October, which I know is a load of crap. I suspect I'm still being pounded by spambots, as earlier in the year, difference being I'm not seeing them now that I have the captcha installed. I think they're still bombarding my pages, though, and I'm not sure what to do about it. I've emailed the host about the problem and waiting to see what they have to say.

I know my site has an audience, but I know this is not a problem that can be chalked up to popularity. I don't get that many visitors.

if ur paying your HOST then the SPAM bots should be their problem right? is that not the HOSTs job, to provide 'clean' webspace?

maybe change host if they won't do anything about it...

I agree with you liquidmonkey.

The site is presently down. I'm working on retrieving my files and database, and will hopefully have things setup again on a new host within a reasonably short time. I'll post here when I have news to report. The new hosting services will be more expensive, though, as I'll be paying for reliability. I'm going to look at restructuring my distribution system for the galleries, maybe charging a small donation/fee to help defray the costs of the new server. I hope people won't take it the wrong way.

I hope people won't take it the wrong way.

I would be really worried if people took it the wrong way Matt, after all the hard work you've done. Just put a nice explanation up.

I made a donation for your great work on the galleries, It's worth it.

Nice works Matt, i know the problem of this kind of web attacks.. (I say attack, because it makes you having a lot of problems)
Do you have logs of your website and did you see strange behavior? eq lots of clicks on one file, without having clicks on the corresponding pages? Lots of strange referrer clicks?
Anyway, success....

Oh, i wanted today download your slimbox, thats why i discovered this thread of you. Is it possible you send me the file (or reference to is). Im willing to donate you on paypal.

Greetings

Gerben

Hello, hello!

The Turning Gate is up and running, now hosted with Media Temple. This hopefully means my hosting problems will be a thing of the past (isn't that what I said the last time?). Presently, the site remains as it was. When I get the time, though, I will be changing the distribution system for the galleries. More info on that as I settle it.

Cheers,
Matt

Glad to hear you're back up and running Matthew!
