The missing thumbs mystery...

Hello, all

I have seen it happen many times, but never in one of my own catalogs; after some time (months, in fact), the old thumbnails start to vanish from LR.
Well, it is supposed to keep the thumbs and previews in its database, so we can work offline and with the HDs disconnected from the computer, so it makes no sense. Relaunch and Optimize doesnt seem to help; only actually plugging in the original files and creating new previews is solving the problem.
Any clues?

I'm probably missing the point here, but each catalog can be set to retain the thumbnails for a period of time. By default it's 3' days, but you can set it to 'never'. Does that help?

Exactly.
"Discard" or "Never" should work for 1:1 previews, and *not* for the standard previews and thumbs. These should be always available. When they start to disappear, it makes me nervous..

Have the catalogs been upgraded Clicio?? I haven't seen this at all on my Mac system, I backup and optimise weekly.
