The Best LR 2 Books for me.

I know a lot of you write books about learning LR 2.

I trying to learn LR2 have three books on it

They are.
1. The Photoshop Light room workbook By Seth Resnick (good book, but index is small)
2 .Lightroom 2 by Scott Kelby (Easy reading Index is still not complete)
3 Photoshop Lightroom 2 for Dummies by Rob Sylvan ( I use this book the most)

I don't know about most new LR 2 users, but for me, I jump around a lot and will not set for days reading one book from the front to the back. If I did, I know I would not remember all the important parts anyway. I know this is part of the reason I'm having trouble now.

Here is the reason a good index is important to me. Right now, I want to resize some photos to put in my E-Mail.
Not one of the three books I have, have "Resize Photos" in their index.

Since I'm learning the Mac also, I'm having double problems. I wanted to "save" a photo in LR 2. No save button.
I would like to look in the index under "save" and have it tell me there is no save on Mac.
There have been 1'-12 subjects that I have tried to find in the books, with no input from the index

I'm sure its in the books somewhere, but I waste 3' min finding it.

This post is not intended to knock any book. I'm sure if I set down and read and studied either book, I would be using LR 2 with little trouble.

I think quite a few of the books already expect you to understand the concept of Non Destructive Editing. There is no save button in LR on Windows or Mac because you don't save the images. Your adjustments are tracked (saved) all the time in the catalog (and xmp files). When you want an image for email you export it. Have a look in the index for exporting.

There is laso a good video on Lynda.com by Chris Orwig that is a great introduction to LR.

I have found video's far easier to learn from than books. Books are useful as reference though and Martin Evenings book and Victoria Bamptons FAQ http://www.lightroomqueen.com/ is what I use for that.

I have Martin Evenings book, and I believe it has a pretty good index.

If you're looking for the best possible searching, I'd recommend sticking to Google and away from the book. Even the best indexes don't always provide all the terms anyone (from beginner to expert) could possibly look for. Google on the other hand, indexes everything.

Books can provide a great reference, but if you're looking to learn LR (which is sounds like you are), as you noted a book will probably serve the most good as a sit down and read a chapter at a time type of approach.

I'd recommend Kelby's books - if you spent 3' minutes searching an index, you could invest that 3' minutes (and maybe 3' minutes each day) to learning it more fully. Otherwise, you'll always be wondering if there's a better way.
