Image not being returned to Lightroom from CS3

Greetings all. Environment is Windows, running CS3 1'.'.1 and Lightroom 2.'. After installing 2.', I have noticed that any image edited in CS3, is not in Lightroom when I return from CS3. Flow: Lightroom, CTRL+E, CS3, Save .PSD. I have to re-import the new PSD image from the same folder I am editing. I did not have this problem with Lightroom 1.4... Probably easy, but it escapes me. tx. Don

I should state this is not consistent. I have some folders where this works. Others where it does not. So far, my only conclusion is that all of the places where it fails seems to be images from a converted 1.4 catalog. Additionally, when I CTRL+E a LR 1.4 catalog image, I do not get the "Edit Photo with Adobe Photoshop CS3" menu where it has the three choices of "1) Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustments 2) Edit a copy or 3) Edit original". Not sure why...

Don, seems like there may be a bug identified in this area. Apparently the current work-around is to assign CS3 as the 'Additonal External Editor' application as well, and use that route to CS3.

Library menu > Edit > Preferences > External Editing tab

There is some chat about sending and saving a trial image to CS3 using the 8-bit depth option which somehow magically fixes the problem. Varied results are reported for that. Probably just some coincidental effect. (Edit: Perhaps that 1.4.1 thing you mentioned.)

Here's a thread at the Adobe U2U forums:

I assume futher imformation will be forthcoming.

I tried the workaround of setting photoshop as the secondary external editor and it works like it should now. Thanks for the tip.

I don't have a need to try this right now, but my understanding is that you can't open in Photomerge, etc. with the current bug. I am using LR 2.' on an XP Pro machine (my main) and on a laptop with Vista. They act somewhat differently with same catalog. The Vista will open a dialog box, etc. The XP Pro will just open immediately in PSCS3--with no dialog box and won't save a tiff.

Currently I am using the workaround of assigning the 2nd editor to CS3 and this works like 1.4. However, but--isn't LR 2.' not supposed to do a tiff until you save?--or did I miss something? On the Adobe LR forums someone had talked to Adobe and they recommended the workaround and said it was indeed a bug.
