Tethered shooting experience

I have a Nikon D7'' at home, it tethered fine this weekend for a quick test on my baby daughters passport portrait. Then today I got caught out at work with an unregistered copy of Capture One after an emergency OS install on the weekend, so I tried LR3b2 tethered with my work camera, a Canon 1Ds MkIII. Connected fine, and appeared to talk the talk, but it didn't walk the walk. The files that I shot either from lightroom's tethering interface or the shutter button on the camera resulted in files being written to the CF card only.
Any contrary experiences?

Everything seems to work properly on both my two computers and my 5D MkII....with CF card in camera it writes to both to the CF card (using normal file sequence number) and to my hard drive using whatever file naming convention I have selected within LR3b2. Remove the card from the camera and it still captures to computer OK.

Have you tried removing the CF card?
It's not anything to do with permissions on the folder that you are capturing into?
A USB cable fault?

Nothing else comes immediately to mind....

Yes, when I removed the card the camera tells me it wants a card as we've asked it to. Did an hour of shooting without a card in once in front of a client... never again! So no solution there.
USB cable is fine, I used it back at the studio later that day.
Bugger! Maybe 1Ds Mk3s are a bit temperamental.
I'll post this at the Adobe Lightroom beta forums.

So when you say it looked like it was working, did the pictures not appear on screen? And you were in PTP or PC Connection on the camera, not Mass Storage?

It appeared to be connected in the tethering interface as the camera name came up but no images appeared on screen after the shutter was pressed, they appeared only on the camera's CF card. As far as selecting from the options that you noted, I haven't seen them in the cameras custom functions before. I know they are present in point and shoot cameras. I'll check and post back.

In the original post i stated that I tried both. The image transferring didn't work using either actuation method. Camera control clearly did work.

Wouldn't you know it. Today with all the same equipment, settings etc, it works fine.
Just testing it's reliability now.
I hold down the camera shutter for 15 frames on high speed but after a couple of minutes only two are downloaded. The camera seems to have choked. Not sure where LR is up to as the progress indicator just tells me that an image is transferring but not how far through that transfer it is. If i just shoot 1 every couple of seconds all is fine. Probably a problem with the camera and it's buffer.

I have tried tether with my D7'' and it works fine although sometimes the shot takes awhile to get into LR, but my machine is cr*p! Both the camera and the LR button have the same effect, but I have just tried and even in burst mode it works great.
