Hi

I'm new to the forum so I hope this is the correct place for my question.

I'm using a D3'' linked to Camera Control Pro and LR. I have no problem calling up the images in LR using the auto import and watched folder option. My D3'' can shoot High res JPGs and NEF at the same time. I'd like to know if I can designate a certain format ( ie either JPG or NEF ) to appear in LR. ie if I want LR to extract just the JPG image and preview the JPG in LR and let Camera Control or LR keep the NEF in a backup folder but not show me that. I hope that makes sense.

Welcome to the forum Macca.

The tethered capture options are pretty limited at the moment, so as far as I know, the only thing you could possibly do is get your capture software to only put certain formats in the watched folder, but whether that's possible, I'm not sure.

You can certainly do that using a third-party tool. You'd have Camera Control Pro put the files into a temporary holding place, and then have the other tool move only the files you want from there into Lightroom's watched folder.

On a Mac, I'd do this with a Folder Action on that temporary folder.

Many thanks Victoria and Mark. Mark, you say a third party tool other than LR and Camera Control Pro. I'm on PC, do you know what the other tool would need to be? or is that something that Camera Control should be able to handle

I don't know of anything pre-built for Windows, unless ImageIngester can do it. But what you need to do isn't hard -- you're monitoring the contents of Directory A, and whenever a JPEG file shows up, moving it to Directory B. And perhaps moving the matching raw file to Directory C.

Maybe someone here can write it for you, if that's beyond your skills.

macca, I just did a google for "windows automatic copying" and came up with several potential utility programs for you try. In particular the top of the list was "watchDirectory4.'" which purports to do what you're asking.

I don't have any knowledge whatsoever whether it actually works or not, you may want to wait for further suggestions, or give it a shot on your own with non-critical data.

Many thanks Brad for your help
Before I look at that route can I ask if there is any other suggestions or recomendations, or if indeed anyone has used this application
