At this point I do not have a camera model that I can take advantage of LR3 tethered capture. I have tried to find a complete listing of what camera controls you have during this process. Is changing the focus point possible? This information will help me make a choice my future eqipment. Thanks

You can control the shutter. There is - at this time- no access to any other controls.
This means focusing is dependent upon the mode you have selected in your camera. If your camera is in an auto-focus mode that requires acquisition of focus prior to firing, LR will fire the shutter, the camera will attempt to acquire focus and then expose the sensor. If it can't find focus, it won't fire (just like when you press your shutter on the camera).
If you are shooting in manual focus mode it will fire regardless.
