I am using the 3' day trial of Lightroom and it looks great except a problem with the tags.
I have a hierarchy of tags in PSE 5.' e.g. Places->Scotland->Highlands and Family->Smith->Aunt Fannie.
After importing the PSE 5.' Catalog, which appeared to go without a hitch, all the tags are there, but there seem to be duplicate entries for sub-tags. That is, there is a hierarchic structure for Highlands>Scotland>Places etc but there is also a top level tag for Scotland and Highlands. Is this supposed to happen?
More confusingly, the number of photos shown in the apparent duplicates does not always match.
I am very confused about what has happened and can't see how to tidy it up without losing some of the tag information. I depended pretty much completely on tags to organise the PSE catalog, so losing a tag could effectively lose the photo in the catalog.
I tried deleting half of one pair. I filtered on Eire in the Library Catalog view, and found that the results were the same for Eire and Eire>Places - but when I deleted the top level keyword Eire from the keyword list on the right hand side, it looks like LR actually deleted Eire>Places, leaving the top level keyword. No big deal in this case, because they both had the same set of photos, but in others which are having different sets of photos I need to know which set of keywords I am going to lose.
Particularly with my family history photos, where a lot of effort went in to identifying the people in the photos and tagging them, retagging every photo by hand is not a task I want to take on. If I can't sort this, I won't buy Lightroom.
Any ideas?
