Hi there,
I have just received my new Seagate Recovered drive back from Seagate, and backed it up.
The old drive was relatively new but started playing up. There were approximately 78,000 photos on the original drive.
At the time it started playing up, I tried to copy it, it wouldn’t copy, and I felt there were some loose photos (not in folders) missing, but I can't be sure about that.
So its backed up and now I need to decide how to re-organize it with Lightroom. I still have the latest catalog, but am not 100% sure its entirely accurate (did I update the catalog before or after the missing photos?) If I load the last catalog and point it to the new drive, I need to know if its recognized and found everything, or will I have to rescan individual folders? A Seagate Tech told me that during Recovery, files get moved around.

So I guess my question is any advice before I go ahead with this would be much appreciated.

I’m using the latest version of Lightroom Classic,

Thanks in advance

What I would do to evaluate the problem :
1. Make a backup copy of the last catalog
2. Open the last catalog
3. See what is marked as missing. Try to relink them
4. Initate a "synchronize" of the top level folder. This will tell you how many photos are not referenced in the catalog.

This will give you an idea of what you have to do to recover. There is no risk for your photos nor your original last catalog.
Based on what you'll find, you can ask here to get help to recover.

Well its taking an eternity! Upon closer inspection, I realise I have face detection and address lookup on !
Not sure if I can turn off face detection while its still cataloging, will check that out.

You can, but it's hidden (poor UI design). Click on the identity plate and then pause Face Detection:

Well finally its done, everything appears to be as it should, now I just have to go through the painful wait of file previews rendering !
As for what files maybe missing, I can't tell as yet...but the numbers are up, so maybe all is okay.
Thanks everybody for your help.
