Sync White Balance

My daughter's Confirmation tonight and I'll have not time to do a custom white balance in church. After I correct the WB via LR, how do I sync that WB to the rest of the photos taken under the same light?

I read a book I have on LR but I don't see any mention of synching WB?

Select all the photos you want to sync.
Make sure the one with the corrected WB is the "most" selected (to use LR parlance).
Then hit the Sync... button at the bottom right of the Develop module.
WB is one of the options you can choose to sync across your selected images.

This is from memory, so I think that's the correct set of steps. ;-)

I do not know what "most" selected mean but as far as i know and i have done, you need to FIRST select the correct marker(image which wb you want to replicate...) and then select all the others you want to sync with that marker... You select the rest holding Shift key and click if you want to select a whole group of consecutive images or Alt + Shift for random ones...

The important thing is to first seelct the correct one/marker.

Liviu, what you said is indeed what Conor meant by 'the most selected', the 'marker' image with the brightest selection frame. Note that by clicking on the actual thumbnail image, either grid or filmstrip, you can change the 'marker / most selected' image. It's not mandatory to select that one first.

One subtle point about syncing white balance: If your source image (the "most selected") is set to As Shot, then the others will also become As Shot.

If you want to sync the actual temp and tint values, the source image needs to be something other than As Shot. Changing it to Custom before syncing is the usual recommendation, if you're happy with the temp and tint values.

Yes Pat, the grey "frame" will be brightest.
Still, Brad's observation is correct, thanks for it Brad, i missed that.

So, Pat, once you've selected several files, the default marker will be the first you've selected, as i previously said BUT if you click on a different SELECTED image you make that one the marker.

So, basically, looks like is not necessary to start the selection with the correct one, is enough to click on that correct one after you've selected all, no matter in which order you've done that selection.

Just give it a try and remember, all you need to check before hitting the Sync button is that marker image is the one with most brighter frame.

PS: I've made a mistake in my previous post. For random selection you hold CTRL and click , not ALT+SHIFT as i said, sorry for that...For mac users obviously is CMD click.

And some more advice.
When in the develop module with the images selected that you wish to adjust.
Your "master" image will be the large one of course. Then you can apple-click the "Sync" button in the bottom of the develop tools panel and that will change to "Autosync". Then just adjust the w/b for your master and all the others will change at the same time!! You will need to adjust each of the temp/tint sliders for changes to register or use the colour picker to register the temp from the image.

Now I'm confused. I thought I had to adjust the master to the correct WB then sync that WB to the rest but looks like I mark the master first, then adjust the WB to the master and the others will change. This is the part I am confused. I will also need to adjust the temp/tint sliders to register the change? Is this required because the 'sync' does not know what I am trying to sync? e.g WB?

Sorry for these dumb question. I've already imported those pictures and I've tested the WB picker and found a neutral grey and it looks good. There are about 1' other pics I need to sync the WB to.

Patrick, what you need to do is first ensure that "Autosync" is enabled, then with all files you want the w/b adjusted and the one with your neutral area that you will use the picker with as "Most selected" or master, just use the colour picker and they will all change. If you weren't going to use the picker you would need to move the sliders. They will all change to the same numbers, this goes for any other slider as well.

I don't have a brother. Goa was a Portuguese colony and many still speak the language.

I was born in Macau (also a Portuguese Colony up til 1997) - I'm Portuguese , but I immigrated downunder over 2' yrs ago and am an Aussie now.

I'm trying to sync the WB and I do not see 'Autosync'. When I select 2 or more pics, I see the 'Sync..' button only. I select this button and I see a dialog box with lots of checkboxes indicating what is to be synced. I then use the picker and select a section of the master image to sync WB but not only WB is synced, the rest of the other PP changes I did as well.

When you see the sync button visible, hold down the Ctl key and the Sync button will change to Autosync.
If you click on the button it will remain set to Autosync.

Do the same to change it back.

Or leave it on and use the Ctrl-Shift-S / Cmd-Shift-S keyboard shortcut if you need normal Sync at any time, without having to turn off AutoSync. I found that works better for me, otherwise you can forget whether AutoSync is on or off.
