Lightroom Version Number
14.3.1
Operating System
  1. Windows 11
After upgrading to 14.3.1, I can no longer sync folders. There are no "Sync error" folders.
When I click on a folder and request a sync, I very quickly get the error message.
This occurs on ALL folders.
Still troubleshooting but wonder if anyone else has seen. Please try. Thank you

"Sync" means different things in Lightroom Classic. Right click on a folder in the folder panel and choose "Synchronise Folder..." and Lightroom will look for images in that folder that have not been imported into your Lightroom Catalog. This sounds like what you did. And there are no images and should be no images in that folder to import.

Right click on a Collection in the Collection Panel and choose "Sync with Lightroom" and the contents of the collection will sync to the Adobe Cloud and a check mark will appear beside that menu item. This sounds like what you were expecting to happen.

Did I guess right?

Yes you are correct. I'm trying to add photos to an existing folder. The Sync shows that there will be a number of photos will be imported. Looking at the folder with file explorer shows that there are files ready to go,
In the Collection Panel I do not find an option to Sync with Lightroom.

If you want to import images and put them in an existing folder, the typical way is to use the import function and specify a source folder to copy files from and that that folder as the destination target on the destination panel.
If you want to use the synchronise function in the folder panel instead. You need to first use the filesystem (Windows Explorer) to copy the files there and then when you use the "Synchronise Folder..." function in the folder panel, It will open the same import dialog with the folder selected in the source panel, new photos selected with the "Add" option in the center panel.
Using the "Synchronise Folder..." function in the folder panel is a rather obtuse way to import images into your master catalog. But a good way to tidy up folders that may have hidden uncataloged files.

Everything you say is true and is exactly what I'm doing. Synchronize Folder, but it is failing.
Thank you for your posts.

It can’t be‘exactly’ what you are doing because what I am describing works and always has.

If you want to stick with this we can take it one step at a time.
Can you show me a screenshot of the folder containing the images the you want to import into your master catalog? also a screenshot of the folder panel showing the folder?

OK found the issue. I turned on to see import dialog before sync. All pictures are selected and then boom; all pictures are unselected. Turn off the check for duplicates and all pictures are selected again and the sync now completes. I used Lightroom to move the folders from one drive to another, So the pictures were in the catalog from being on the other drive and should have removed during the move. So with a little luck I will be up and running again, Thanks for the help.

Not so fast! If the import dialog is checking for duplicates and finds them these images will be unselected. That means the images are already in the catalog. You DO NOT want to reimport! Never reimport. The concept of the Lightroom DAM tool is to have one copy and only one copy of your master image If you had image in the wrong folder, you move them to the correct folder using the Lightroom folder panel to do the move. (You can move the image using the file system, but this involves updating the file path in Lightroom manually. Lightroom will report these images as missing when the filepath in the catalog does not resolve into the actual image).
Filesystem folders are the poorest choice for organization. Import the images one time and ignore the filesystem folder structure. Use Keywords, Collections and Smart Collections to organize your images.
Now you have a bigger problem. Duplicate images with possibly different edit adjustments. What do you want to do now?

Thank you. For now, all is working well. Yes, there are some problems under the hood, but I don't know how to correct. Perhaps you are another user with the same problem, and will offer some details to correct.

I have downloaded the manuals and will start reading and checking for what I may have done incorrectly and possible paths forward. Thanks again.
