I mentioned in the thread mentioning v14 being ready for prime time that I had a sync mismatch. It really doesn't bother me much, as I am so happy to be on Mac Sequoia and LrC 14.0.1 and with all other products current and working great. But, I found a new twist. Here are my numbers: In LrC I have 114,418 in All Photos, 103,562 in All Synced Photos and 10,856 Videos. 103,562+10856=11,418 (perfect), but in Lr Desktop I have 106,471. So yes, there is some discrepancy, and LrC does say that it's fully in Sync. I just discovered in LrC > Preferences > Lightroon Sync that there are a lot, maybe thousands of items in the Sync Activity. They all say uploading, the local file path and name, and "Image" in the Sync Details/Errors column. Of course they are not syncing, because LrC has a green arrow indicating all is in sync. But, this brings up two questions:

1. If I were to remove those images one by one from LrC and re-import them, would my sync problem go away, and
2. Is there a way to find a log of those images in the Sync Activity somewhere so that they could be removed in bulk, rather than one at a time.

I may be wrong, but I suspect, deleting them and them bringing them back in, maybe in small groups that this issue might fix itself.

What do the experts think, am I on to something here? If not, as I said, I can happily live with little discrepancy.

Thank for any advice...

I have seen the presence of videos in the All synced Photos special collection so they are counted there but won't sync

I have seen where images in LrC are showing as being synced but there is no matching image in Lr, again causing a mismatch. One cause that I have verified is that if you have a backup catalog and subsequent to making the backup your removed/deleted the images. Then you restored the backup which brought the images back into LrC showing as being synced, but there is no mate in Lr and you cannot make that recovered image sync again without removing it and then brringing it back in (either a plain import or to retain all the metadata and export as catalog, then remove, then import from catalog)

I have seen where after the restoration of a backup catalog which you make the sync catalog, that SP (Smart Previews) from Lr Download into LrC and are marked as syncing but there is no pjysical image on disk. However, the full size original is still in the LrC catalog and marked to sync even though it doesn't.

Are these bugs? Some probably are.

Will these situaitons drive you crazy if you like numbers to match? Yes

Are observing mismatched number useful? Yes, if you use the information as motivation to track down what situation is casuing the mistmatch and then correcting those issues.

I seem to remember you had a bunch of sync issues with 13.3... how did they get resolved in the end? That could be key.

Yes, you are correct and what I did there was delete them one at a time from finder using the Sync Activity for reference. When I was done I had LrC find missing photos and deleted them. Then, I brought them back in in small batches watching my count to keep thing together. It was slow and tedious, but it worked. I could not find another way as the diagnostic dump did not show a single image.

The difference this time is there are thousands of them, way too many to delete one at a time.

Any ideas, or is this kind of like metadata change???? Look the other way

Might be interesting to take a look at an updated html diagnostic log. I'd suggest contacting Adobe Support, but I can imagine your reply to that one!

Believe it, or not, I did contact Adobe yesterday and got a really nice guy that spent a lot of time with me. He had me pull a diagnostic report and check the html file in the Binary Upload area. Unfortunately, not a single image was listed, nor anywhere I could find later. He suspected that it might be files that are not in a collection, so I created a Smart Collection that included images that are not in any collection. Then, I highlighted them all, and created a regular collection cll "Not In Any Collection" and included all those images. There were about 20,000 so I let them sync all night, but to no avail. I was just looking for a way to find a text list of the "Sync Activity" list so I could write a script to delete them all, but no luck. As far as Adobe support, hahaha, I think they are getting there act after getting the lawsuit for DOJ.

Can we get a look at that log Marc? There might be something else there that offers some clues.

In your earlier post 13.3 troubleshooting, did you ever Rebuild Sync Data or delete the sync.lrdata file? We've heard that it can leave some temp stuff behind, which is why they no longer recommend doing so, and I'm wondering if that could cause it.

No, there's no way to get a list of sync activity, but all pertinent info should be in the diagnostic logs.

Hi Victoria;

Sorry I took so long to get back to you. I was called out of town on business and just got back. No internet at all there either. And thank you so much for the offer to review my log.

Anyway, you are correct, but I did both. First I tried to rebuild it and when that didn't work, I deleted it. The stuff left behind was the source of a nightmare.

So, in the evenings while I was away, I turned on export XMPs for all my edited photos, exported them into a separate folder for edited photos. Then, I exported everything else as is.

After that I completely uninstalled LrC, and deleted everything the uninstaller left behind.

Reinstalled LrC, brought back my unedited files 1 year at a time, so I could monitor the sync, then I brought back the edited.

To make a long story short, I'm at 118,547 and in perfect sync across all devices. There may have been easier ways, but this worked and all is well.... with a few hard lessons learned :)

On a side note regarding other conversations on metadata... all metadata is good now too, apparently a side benefit of rebuilding and being patient while LrC does all of it's magic.

Thanks again,
Marc
