switching from windows to MAC and HDD to NAS

I have previously been using LrC on my windows PC with an external HD. I now have a MAC studio and sinology NAS and having trouble getting everything across and i do not want to import again. I have read the e-book about moving computers. but still need help.
I have mapped a NAS drive and directed LR to the catalogue so it does open up ok. But there are no folders showing, when i click add, it can direct it to my photos in NAS under the hierarchy but it wants to import (shows add at the top). Is this correct? the guides say don't import.
I only want to do this once and obviously want to do it right! oh, the joys of changing systems!

Just to clarify - you aren't trying to hold the catalog on the NAS and open it, are you? You can't hold a catalog on a network drive. If you mean it's just the photos on that drive, that's fine (although typically access is a lot slower doing that)

If it is not too late, I recommend using Migration assistant to Migrate from windows to Mac. Apple provides a windows version of Migration assistant. It creates a package of your user settings and data to transfer to the Mac. All you need to do is install the Mac Equivalent programs to access the data.

I also recommend against using a NAS, especially since you have faster TB4 ports on your Mac Studio. Set the NAS up for Time Machine Backups of all of your critical data.

Hi. no i did manage to map it so it does open ok. i have read more about the NAS being slower so i may swap and keep the main photos on my porable HD and just back up to the NAS. thanks

Hi. thanks for this. i will have a look at the migrate. You are another one to say about the NAS being slower and i did not consider the ports being faster. Fortunately I can change the set up as i have not pressed the final button! i think it time to get a new portable SSD to use for the MAC. This was my set up before- All data on portable drive and backed up to NAS plus online.
