Hi everybody,
I'm new here and, first of all, will like to apologize for my bad english, but I'll will try to make me understand :D:D.

So, I'll like to have directions on how to switch my catalogue and photos from a a PC based system to a new MacBook Pro.

My actual system is a PC, with a 24" Dell Ultrasharp screen and catalogue and Photos are in a La Cie 5'' Gb USB 2 external disk. Photos are managed by LR 1.4.

Last wek I made the switch (start making it...) and purchased as follows :
- MacBook Pro 15".
- LR 2.3
- Western Digital e-sata 2TB (will format it to 1TB + 1TB RAID 1).
- NEC Spectraview 26" (What a fantastic screen :shock::shock:!!!)

Then those are the qüestions :
- If I connect the USB 2 LaCie disk to the MacBook and open the Catalogue it will all run smoothly and without troubles ??
- Then i'll transfer all the photos to the Western Digital and start working with the new system.
- I'm thinking in keeping the catalogue in the MacBook HD, as I will work with it when traveling, but keep the backup's in the Western Digital

Do you think things will run this way ??
Any suggestion ??

Many thanks in advance. Best,

Looks fine to me. When you will open your Lightroom 1.4 catalog from your Lightroom 2.3 Mac, it will ask to convert to the 2.3 version and let the 1.4 catalog there with its previews. Up to you to backup your 1.4 catalog first on a DVD or elsewhere first and delete it along with its previews after conversion.

JoanCT, welcome to the forums. Not to worry, your English is quite good enough for our purposes. (and far better than any second language of mine :) )

[COLOR=#''''ff]USB connections will run, but Firewire would be faster. There are also scattered reports of USB drive problems associated with Macs in general. (Not specifically associated with Lightroom) I'm a Windows user, so I'll yield to the Mac users on these points.

Many thanks guys !!!
Now Catalogue and photos are transferred to the MacBook HD, Catalogue has been updated to 2.3 and all is running smoothly.
Next is to configure WD in RAID1, transfer there the photos and start enjoying again.

Best,
