suddenly my photo's in Lr have become smaller

Hello members,

I use LR 6 for a long time now and I have a wide collection of photo's 1280 by 850. Until now I alway got a fullsize view in Library/develop mode when i'm in the fit/full mode.
When opening LR suddenly I see only smaller photo's about 1/4th of the normal view. I can only change this manually to 2:1 or by using the slider in the bottom.
Why is this happening and how to restore to the normal view ?

How large (in pixels) are your monitor settings? Lightroom will show the image at one image pixel per one monitor pixel.

Have you changed anything about your computer hardware recently? For example, did you buy a new Mac or a new display for it?

The reason I ask is because the problem is described as if it happened all of a sudden, the symptoms look like using software not updated for Retina/HiDPI displays, and the screen shot looks like it might be from one of those new higher resolution ultrawide displays.

Thanks for your thoughts but i have a new Imac for more than a year, so nothing new on the hardware front.
So far the problem did not show even when I use the older LR5 which I use for my airliner collection. So out of nowhere the problem suddenly appeared on opening the program. In the navigator the buttons fit-fill or 1:1 don't give any change.
The screen resolution has not been changed in any way since the first use (retina 5120x2880 )
Importing hight res photo's however show the old way appr.80% of the viewing area.

The image is very small (1280 pixels) for your screen (5120 pixels), so this is expected behavior for 1:1 view. I don’t know if Lightroom is supposed to upsize the image view if you choose ‘fit’ or ‘fill’, but if it did, the image would look soft and unsharp. So to me the current behavior is what I would expect. BTW, you can choose 2:1 and more under the menu in the upper left corner, not only by using the slider. The menu already is set to 2:1 right now.

I do not see what the nature of this question is? LR has been working fine for a long time in the same version, on the same computer, with the same monitor ,in the same OS version Mojave. WHY does it SUDDENLY all by itself change the format of my previeuw ?

The selected ratio is "Passend" (Fit) in the attached image. "Vullen" (Fill) should fill the center panel with the image with little margins where necessary.

I know (‘passend‘ is Dutch), but the question is whether or not that should also happen when the picture is (much) smaller than the center panel (in pixels). I’m typing this on my iPad so I can’t test it, but I would not be surprised if ‘fit’ and ‘fill’ do/should not enlarge the image beyond 100%. On the other hand: the OP claims that Lightroom did do that until recently…

I've just tested it using LrC10.4.....cropped an image to a ridiculously small size, i.e. much smaller than the current size of the loupe window, and the behaviour IS as the OP was expecting, i.e. at 1:1 the image only occupies a small central part of the panel, but Fit & Fill blow the image up to the maximum size possible to fit/fill the loupe display (resulting in a heavily pixelated image, of course).

My monitor is only 1920 x 1200, but I'm wondering if there's been some change in behaviour when that situation is encountered on a 4k or 5k screen (as the results might be even more unsightly there)? Perhaps someone with a 4/5k monitor could try to reproduce?

I’m on my iPad too and cannot verify, but I’m pretty sure that fit does not enlarge beyond 1:1. Fill OTOH will enlarge beyond 1:1 to fill the window.

But it's the same when using LR6 (actually CC2015.14), however that was on Windows10, I don't have LR6 installed on my Mac.

For what it is worth, LR 6.14, W10, mid-resolution monitor, both fit and fill expand an absurdly small image to fit/fill the image space (heavily pixelated). I don't have a 4K to experiment with.

Maybe delete the preferences?
