In the last couple weeks, Lightroom for me has been extremely buggy. Crashing more that intermittently, loosing my catalog and then not being able to re-load the backed up catalog.

Sometimes the crashes will be literally as soon as it opens up, and then after that happens a couple time...there are no more pictures in the cataog.

I have verified and repaired my permissions, I have gotten rid of a bunch of potentially questionable fonts, but I have been using lightroom since the original beta, and these problems have only come up in the last 1' days/2 weeks, and I thought I had it figured out today--this morning every was going great... and now this evening I can't even reload the backed up catalogs.

Please help.

btw...I am using a dual 1.8 G5 with 2.5 gigs of Ram and am fully updated with my OS.

This should all go in your Signature. Fill in at User CP link in top menu bar.

There is a help thread on this elsewhere.

Are you using LR Version 1.2?

Don

Right

LR v1.2.

I fixed my signature.

I will continue to look in the help section, but I could find anything regarding this in an initial cursory search, and I have gone through most of the Adobe help stuff with questionable results.

thanks

Possibly something outside the realm of Lightroom, perhaps? Maybe a disk going bad, or a buggy OS install? Bad RAM?

Have you checked your permissions on your system?

...and I re-read your Post and see that you have verified your permissions, so scratch that idea.

Sounds frustrating. I have to wonder if it's a LIR issue or somethings else as well.

Have you tried a fresh install of Lightroom? Try backing up any preferences you have and re-installing LR.

Alternatively, do you have another system you could load one of you catalogs on?

Sometimes old Catalogs can just go bad. Have you tried creating a fresh one and importing from there? If you get the old one running, try either selecting all in 'All Photographs' and then Cmd S to save out the XMP info, then create a new catalog and import. Or Select all and then 'Export as Catalog'. Hopefully either one of those will help get you a functioning Catalog.
Make sure you check the disk as others have mentioned, just in case it's starting to go.

Sounds like RAM to me.

I'd definitely go with the new catalog option, to discount any possibilities of it being catalog corruption.

But before that, delete your preferences file. That seems to fix a multitude of weird bugs in my experience.

well...

After working on this most of the evening yesterday, I finally created a new catalog, trashed the old app and reinstalled a clean version. I should have just did that in the first place as it seems to be working like a champ now, and it took very little time. Thanks again everyone for the help.

That is good news Chris.
If you get more problems, just sing out!!

Glad you've got it working now!
