I have a group of image files that include those scanned from negatives, prints and digital images from 2 different cameras. They are all of a Christmas morning. The capture dates are different on some of the scans and some of the digital files. There are 80 files in this windows directory all imported into Lightroom classic desktop. When I select more that 5 files at a time and try to Edit Capture Time, Lightroom changes some of the files to the entered value and others get a totally different capture time. The reason I am even bothering to change the capture time is that for family reasons I add the images to Google Photos which sorts by date captured. Has anyone else seen this sort of behavior? Thanks

If you select images with an existing, different capture date and change the capture date of one of them, the other dates will be changed with the same amount, not set to the same date/time. So if you effectively changed the date 24 hours for example, then all the other dates will be changed 24 hours too.

Thanks for the info.
That is strange.
It really means that you should only change dates on files where the current date is the same.
Learn something every day. Thanks again

It's not strange. It is mainly meant to correct a wrong capture date cause by a wrong camera clock setting. In that case all the images will be off by the same amount of time, and so this procedure will correct them all in one go.

Take a look at the Capture Time to Exif plugin. The basic operation is designed specifically handle the problem with updating scanned images to have the actual capture date rather than the date of the scan.

Because it is based on the exiftool metadata viewer and editor it also gives you the ability make other changes like adding camera, lens and exposure information if so desired.. It can be a little tricky to use because it only operates on actual image files and you have to follow the instructions carefully to correctly update the information in the catalog.
