What is the simpliest way to restart LR2.2 from scratch without affecting my presets ? The last few months I have been playing around a lot creating catalogs, collections, folders etc...Can I simply delete all catalogs and preview data in Windows Explorer and will LR automatically recreate a fresh one for me at startup ? (I don't think my presets will be affected, as they are in a separate folder)
Or do I have to remove and reinstall LR (which probably means that I'll have to BU all presets on a separate drive and put them back in the appropiate folders later)
I'm well aware that I'll have to reimport all my images, but that's not a problem, I have loads of time...
Currently all my BU's are on separate external HD's, and before I do anyting drastic I'll make an image(Norton Ghost..) of my C drive (which I do on a weekly base for all my drives...)

Roger, first of all I would save changes you have made back to the files if you want to keep the changes. The easiest way to do this is in Library>Grid in the All Photographs Collection. Select all then cmd-s, even if you have Auto-write to xmp turned on in your catalog settings.
Then I would reopen LR holding down the alt key which will allow you to start a fresh catalog. With the new catalog you can either import the files from you HD or import them from your old catalogs, if you want.

Thanks for the quick and efficient response. I overlooked the possibility of creating a new (blank) catalog and then reimport from wherever...so then I can delete all the old ones
What exactly happens when I choose "read metadata from file"?
Just one more thing : I really appreciate all the time and efforts and patience that you Guru people spent in answering questions that might sometimes look stupid to experts !

Roger, the read metadata command uploads from the files the current metadata state of the file to the Lr catalog. Like a backwards save. from the catalog to file.
Handy if you change files in other applications or have files in more than one catalog.
