Stacking and Collections

Anyone know why in LR (at least in 1.3.1) when you have files that are stacked in their folders and then you move them all into a collection, the stacking goes away?

Additionally, if you have the images stacked and collapsed in the folder and then select the images and move into a collection only the top image on the stack moves over to the collection. On the other hand, if you have the stack expanded and then select all the images and add them to the collection they all go to the collection without a stacking.

Very odd.

On the first, stacking only works in Folders, not in Collections. Many will agree with you that this is "odd".

On the second, if the stack is collapsed, it's effectively the only one that exists; you cannot select the others, so they won't go into the collection. I think that's a pretty natural way of thinking, personally.

True enough Mark. I ran into these quirks of stacks early on and it caused me to drop them for a while. I guess I look at stacks a bit differently from others. For example, I use stacks exclusively for bracketed shots. So to me a stack is a group of images that are only different by exposure. I wish I could treat them as a group, i.e. move them as a group, sync their metadata, etc.

I would LOVE if LR could eventually read bracketing data from the camera to give an autostack. I know it can do this based on time, but that is not what I want since I also often shoot images in quick succession to try to over come camera shake, etc. Thanks much.
