Stacked pic's and keywording

I think I remember having read somewhere, that LR can "stack" pictures taken at the same time (or maybe just wishing...).

If so three questions:

1) how does it work/can it be done?
2) if I keyword the stack - I would expect all newly typed keywords would be shared by all pic's in the stack?
3) if I have one keyworded pic and stack it with several non-keyworded pictures (this is actually my problem) - can I easily make all pictures in the stack share existing keywords with each other?

Yes - look at Photo > Stacking > Auto Stack - but no and via Sync Metadata.

Yes, 2 and 3 are stupid. You have to expand the stack before keywording.

I don't want to put words in John's mouth, but I've heard his opinion on this before, so I'll take a chance, and say that he meant that "Lr's behavior is stupid " as opposed to this being a stupid question. (In case anyone's reading it as ambiguously as I did)

I'm not sure I see the ambiguity, but you have interpreted me correctly Brad! The questions were far from stupid, but identified areas where Adobe haven't done nearly as well as they should.

My view, FWIW, is that stacking's main application is for frames which are alternatives of the same subject, so there should at least be a preference which changes the current behaviour so that applying keywords and other metadata to one image also applies to the other items in the stack.

Thanks for the replies. Even if its a real let-down...

The more I learn about LR I think the problem may be, that Adobe originally has seen it very much as a RAW converter, and much less as an organising tool.

Hope I do not regret one day going down this path...

Maiaibing, I've been watching the process for a while, and I think that while the raw rendering technology has gotten the bulk of attention thus far, I think Adobe's goals still include providing technology for managing a photo practice, that is, Digital Asset Management, and its extensions. Even the upgrade from 1.x to 2.', showed a significant investment of thought and effort in improving that aspect of the program, although clearly there's plenty of work left to be done.

I think the combination of photo management and practice/back-office management, is the 'category-killer' that Adobe's striving for from a marketing perspective.
