I recently upgraded to LR 1.4.1 (Microsoft Windows XP Professional OS) and I must say the stability of LR did not imrove very much. I've read the Forum and other people are reporting the same issues. When switching from "Library" mode to "Develop" mode - CRASH.

I've contacted Adobe about the issue and they have replied by saying it is caused by my dual monitor set up - BOLDERDASH!

Personally for the time invested in restarting and rebooting I would never have bought LR. To me the developers of LR haven't fully tested it on a Windows operating system. However I did hear that it is much more stable on a MAC. Maybe Adobe should buy us all PC users a MAC?

I know what you are going to say "He only has a HP Pavilion with Windows and not on a MAC" - well in response I must say I had very good results from my HP and has treated me very well. - it is what ever works, right!

Are there any LR developers on this Forum?

Thank you for listening and I look forward to using a stable version of LR!

Sorry to hear you're having trouble Mark.

Whilst Lightroom was originally developed on a Mac and ported to Windows, Windows testing is given just as high a priority now. Obviously the range of Mac hardware is very limited, whereas there's such a huge range of Windows hardware, so it's not possible to test every hardware and driver combination. We'll do what we can to help you get this sorted though!

Could you give us a little more information about what the tech support you spoke to said?

Does it crash every single time you switch to Develop module? I'd be looking at most likely a corrupted monitor profile, probably updating the graphics card driver to the latest available, and possibly temporarily removing any Develop presets in case one of them is corrupted.

So first port of call - recalibrate, or temporarily remove the monitor profile. Lightroom uses the monitor profile differently to most programs, so any minor corruption can cause trouble.

Well, we're sorry you're encountering difficulties.

Have you tried the troubleshooting steps here?

Basic LR Troubleshooting

Are your video drivers completely up to date?

I run LR quite happily with basically identical tech-specs, and have for quite a while.

Having participated in both of the LR public beta tests so far, I can tell you that the software had, and continues to have, quite a thrashing on Windows machines, and that the development team paid (pays) a great deal of attention to user input. Clearly, your unsatisfactory (so far) results are not unique, but they're by no means typical.

Thank you Victoria and Brad for your quick reply,

i do not recall the person I spoke to at Adobe about my situation. Yes I recently updated my graphics card driver and am now looking to upgrade my video card.

Thank you for the Trouble shooting tips, I shall review them to see if this helps.

Thank you again for your information.

Mark

You will see i have a very similar system. I have few problems since 1.3, no crashes.

I have definately heard of the dual monitor setup being an issue, way back in 1.1, and it seem to be consistant to the video card not been updated.

Braders, just a few minutes ago I went from "Library" mode to "Develop" mode and it crashed, note that I wait for all images to load before I attempt to switch from mode to mode. I spoke to a collegue this evening and he also had the same problems with his dual monitor setup with dual video cards.
Yes, I see you have a similar system - nice to see.

Oh, I also recently had my PC reformatted and fully updated (video card) so it is running with everything updated.

My thoughts on the situation may be what Victoria and Brad said about the video card I may upgrade the card and do away with my 2-video card set up. I have been wanting to update my video card to a DVI output card for quite sometime so perhaps now is the time.

Mark, just to reassure you, I'm running 3 (sometimes 4) monitors on 2 nVidia (mediocre spec/lower-end) dual-headed cards. The only LR problem I've ever had is controlling where the LR2 Beta second screen will appear.

Of course, this doesn't help your current (frustrating) problem. As I said, just trying to reassure you that, in general, it really does work. Can you get your hands on a loaner/spare video card to just give it a shot?

"The crashing situation" - an update

Hello everyone who has replied to my situation. I wanted to give you an update. I did a video card (dual digi outputs), I got the ATI Radeon by VisionTek. I can now run my 2 monitors (a Samsung Syncmaster 245bw and a IBM 24" crt monitor).
I did the usual system clean up duties, but I do notice a difference. I just finished editing photos from a wedding I recently shot and trust me I put LR thru the ringer and tried to crash it but it never did. Perhaps my PC was just having a good day - who knows, but I am much happier :cheesy:
Along with the video card I picked up a Spyder3Elite calibrator to calibrate my 2 monitors.

Oh and I bought the Canon 28-3'' f/3.5-5.6L IS USM lens.
I'M BROKE!!!!!
Thanks everyone, this is a fantastic community!!
