Spot removal and clone quit working

I am having a buggy issue when working with the white balance eye dropper, spot removal and clone tools. They work fine for a while, and then suddenly when you click on any of those, in stead of getting the tool, you get the zoom tool. the only way to get back to using the correct tool is to quit lightroom and restart.

Any ideas what is causing this?

I've seen the same from time to time (you're not imagining it!) but never managed to find steps to reproduce it to fix it.

You could try moving the preferences and letting it rebuild clean ones to see if that does the trick.

I can confirm that I have also seen this on rare occasions.
