Conditions:
Grid mode
Sorting by file name from A to Z
Within a stack I have 1 NEF and 1 virtual copy of NEF
MAC OSX 1'.4.11

Why when I open created from virtual copy TIFF in CS2 my stack get to the end of the grid? Is it a bug?
Why when LR adds index to the file name (in case of multiple versions on disk) the file appears in the end of the grid and not next to the copy? Is it a bug too?

What is your sort order. This can happen, depending on the sort order.

It may be a bug in the sort. I've seen some incorrect 'A-Z Sort by File Name' results in 1.3.1. What are the file names involved?

This happened to me last week for only one photo not sorting properly. I just dragged that photo (not its frame) to the proper position and all is fine now.

The sort order is by file name and from A to Z. The file name is like this:
2''8'1'1_'1234.nef
2''8'1'1_'1234a.tif
2''8'1'1_'1234b.tif
2''8'1'2_'1274.nef
2''8'1'2_'1274a.tif
2''8'1'2_'1274b.tif
When I create tif with "a" or "-1" (index) LR places file and the stack into the end of the grid.
It looks like numbers have higher weight and when you add letter or dash and the number (-1) it places the file (and the stack) to the end of grid. That is only logical explanation I have, but i do not consider it right.

Placing file manually into the right position changes sort type to "custom" or "user choice", do not recall by hard. But as soon you choose sort by file name it again appears in the end of the grid.

Thank you everyone anyway. May be v2.' will give more clarity and flexibility. By for now.

Leonid

To address the OP, I think the sort order that works for this is capture time.
I recall having this issue but sorting by capture time works fine, the files are sorted by time then name (in time blocks).
