I really miss one feature which I have in Adobe Photoshop Elements.
When I search using any keyword, let's say "trip" I have a big list of photos with this tag. But the problem is that there are too many trips and there is no anyvisual distinction between pictures from different trips. I can't see where is the first and where is the last picture from the trip I am looking to (it's even more true if you have a lot of trips to the same place). In Adobe Photoshop Elements I could check Displey/Folder location and after that I see the same photos but devided by strings with folder names.

Is there any way to do the same in Lightroom? Thanks.

There is (or was) a discussion about this in "The Lounge". I don't know how to make a link to that discussion (I'm sure someone will pop up and tell me (don't you :-), so you will have to search for it (Topic is organizing).

My opinion (not the opiion of others in that thread!) is that folders are not important in LR for organizing. LR does the organizing, not you. BUT (there is always 1 al least) you HAVE to use (and strictly) the keywords and metadata options. By the keywords you could have been searching for "trip Myamar", or "trip Birma", whatever is usefull AND (important!) logical to you.

Thanks for your answers but I am afraid you didn't get me. I also think that tags are more convenient than folders structure and actually I use a kind of simple folders structure with dates as their names. But I also have some info about that folder after the date, example:
2''8.'2.15 Trip to Nnn
2''8.'3.2' Trip to Xxx
and so on

all these photos have tags, like "trip", "Nnn", "Xxx" and sure I can easily find every photo using only keywords.

BUT. I will see ALL photos from my trips to Nnn and I want to see them in this way:

date_Trip to Nnn
pictures

date2_Trip to Nnn
pictures

I think picture will explain it better:

and my question is: Is the any way to make smth like that in Lighroom? (Timeline would be one of the possible answers by the way, but it seems it is absent either)

Sort by Capture Time would be the obvious one for this kind of scenario, but I guess that doesn't do quite what you're looking for?

Thanks for your answer, Victoria. Sure I know about this option but I am speaking about visual dividing of search results based on some criteria (be it folder location, keyword, flag, colour labeling or smth other).
But at least I know answer to my question now and it seems it's "No" :)

This might be good for a feature request actually because it is absent from the current release and I've not seen it demonstrated in the search features of LR2 beta.

I know what you're talking about and would also like to see exactly the same.

If I have keyworded a venue or a musician or a dancer, I don't want to just get a results list of over a thousand images - leafing through them can get tedious. I won't always remember the details of exactly when or where I took the picture (gets muddy after a while), but the shoot folder would usually point me in the right direction.

I'd like to (also) be able to see my results in a collapsed (or expanded according to set preference) folder list that I can browse through and relegate as I go.

Will put in a feature request for this.

I'm sure I'm not the only one. People can't be expected to have to search by trial and error date or locations or flags or - nope still not there, what else now - other keywords, nope, star ratings, nope... err...

I put it in this morning.

Yaroslav - put one in yourself for the same; as Victoria says "the more requests for the same feature, the more likely it is to be implemented".

Hope I do understand what you want (I think I want (and have it) too):

I have three main folders (idea of someone else in this forum):

Events
Locations
People

When I import 1 of my series (trip to Mexico or whatever) I create a new subfolder in Events (or it COULD be Locations) named "Trip Mexico 2''6" and import the pictures in that folder. So I am getting a folder structure from which I can easily see ALL pictures from a certain travel.

Is that what you want?

But you could read stasber's message earlier in this topic, he has got the point and he has a good explanation there. Well, I think I'd rather paste it here:

I understand what Yaroslav wants. It's easy to select an assortment of folders, either in a tree, or discontinous for display in the grid. He can get what he wants to display in the grid. He can even get what he wants displayed in the correct sort order (mostly, depending on the original criterial) in the grid.

What he's asking for is a visual indication on the grid of where the sort criteria change.

Here's the simplest example I can come up with. Choose multiple folders to display in the grid, then sort the chosen images by date. Now, draw a big red line between Years in the grid, and a big blue line between Months in the grid, and a big green line between Days in the grid. I believe both Picasa and ACDSee have capabilities like this.

Yaroslav wants to do this, drawing the lines between folders and subfolders. That's the way his personal memory of the organization works. He can display them all, he just wants to see where one ends and the next begins.

Unfortunately for Yaroslav, LR can't do this at present.

Is that a reasonable summary Yaroslav?

That's how I understand it too, Brad.

The way I address this today is to use the Expanded Cell grid view (hit J until you get there), then right-click on one of the four cell headers and choose Folder.

It's not quite the same thing, but I think it's about as close as you can get today.

Mark, I have just saw your message. This headers thing isn't perfect but it works good enough to use it.
A really good tip!

It seems I have a good habbit to say "thanks" in every my message and I am not going to break it , so: Thanks :)

I should mention that you can do this in the Compact Cells grid view too.
For some reason I never change my Compact Cells view, but you could if that worked better for you.
