Import Sony AWR/tethering

I am new to the forum so excuse me if this topic has been hashed prior, I have looked in the archives couldnt find much.
After a LOT of frustration I have finally got my tethering happening into Lightroom (watched folder) via Sonys imaging edge software. The problem I am having now is that Lightroom is not recognizing Sonys raw .AWR files. I know that Lightroom now supports my A7111 which has the latest firmware, I have the latest version of Lightroom Classic 9.2.1, the latest ACR version 12.2.1 but still Lightroom comes up with a error ?
I am obviously missing something here ? can anybody help me with this please ?

What does the error actually say? And have you tried importing the files direct to Lr, just to check it isn't part of your tethering (at least initially)?

Hey Paul thanks so much for the reply your question helped me sort it out. I tried with the memory card & Lightroom read the AWR file no problem. So I went looking, it was a windows 10 problem I downloaded a Microsoft raw image extension app & problem solved .......... one more question please. Now when I take a shot tethered it’s opens up immediately in the import window as a tiny preview, if I cancel the import then it’s full screen in the library window which is great. Is there anyway I can get it straight into the library without having to go & cancel the import each time?

Good, that's a step forward! Is it Lr that's displaying the small preview? Check File menu > Auto Import > Enable Auto Import, see if that helps (folder needs to be empty when you check this option).

LR doesn't support tethered for Sony, so I am very surprised you are seeing what you see. My guess is that you have it set as mass storage and LR is seeing the card in the camera. That is not really shooting tethered. You may be able to auto-import from that card as Paul suggested.

You can also actually shoot tethered by using Sony or Capture One software (both free for Sony). This allows you to actually control the camera and see data while shooting (a distinction to tethered vs reading the card). If you set a program like that to shoot tethered and save to folder X, you can then set LR to auto-import from that folder as Paul mentioned, yielding a real tethered shoot with LR import.

Another possibility, though I am unfamiliar with that body, is if it has FTP transfer you can have it send to the LR import folder, allowing you to just shoot, and have it go into LR as you shoot. If it has wireless you can then be doing it all without wires. I do that with an A9ii for digitizing negatives. There are likely other transfer scenarios depending on body; the A9ii has probably 3 or 4 different things you can set up, wireless and wired and USB, maybe bluetooth. Not sure about the A7iii and haven't tried it on my A7iv.
