The serial number for my camera is showing as unknown. Is there any way I can manually add this info to my photos or is this a problem with Sony cameras?

I'm guessing it's never shown up? It's either stored in a non-standard exif location, or it's not there at all. I remember a lot of the early Nikon's did the same.
