This phenomenon has been happening for a very long time, and I have no idea what the cause is. I'd like to think user error, but let's see what you guys/gals think.

I began key wording all of my new imports as well as some older stuff a few months ago. At some point, I noticed that my newly key worded things were nowhere to be found when I did a key word search, or when I looked through the hierarchy list. After some time of looking through that list, however, I noticed that one of the key word items was able to be expanded. It had a sub set of keywords attached to it.

And that's where I happened to find somewhere around 75-1'' of the key words that I had made. How ? The key words found in that child directory had nothing in common with the parent keyword. After the find, I manually dragged and dropped each key word out of there and into their normal slot.

Well, things have been ok for a while, but photos I key worded last night, the night before and today wound up in the same exact place as the others had. It's absolutely zaney !

Ok.. so here's the details:

The parent keyword all these things seem to keep falling under is : "Family" Under Family, I have two child key words. They are "Dougs Family" and "Edit's Family" (that's my wife). Now, for some unknown and bizarre reason, every new keyword I create, manages to wind up as a child keyword category to "Edit's Family".

How might this be possible, if when at the time of keyword creation, all I'm simply doing is labeling things totally differently ? For instance, the last thing I key worded was "real estate pics". But they wound up in "Edit's Family". This is problematic for a few reasons, and would like to know what I might be doing to cause this ?

Thanks,

Doug

I would be suspicious of the apostrophe in "Edit's". It may be doing some wonky things to the hierarchy.

That would be the first thing I would try would be renaming that preset to Edits Family and see if the behavior still manifests.

I just looked. None of my keywords actually contain punctuation, except for one apostrophe at the end of one word, and it's not that one. I simply put the apostrophe in Edit's name in my post above because I can't help myself from using proper grammOrzes. :D

Any other suggestions ?

If you look at the offending keyword in the Keyword List panel does it have an asterisk "*" following it? If so it means you have activated the "Put New Keywords Inside This Keyword" setting. Right click (Ctrl Click) on the keyword an uncheck the "Put New Keywords Inside This Keyword" setting.

I will check to see if this is the case. Sorry for not getting back sooner, was a bit under the weather last night/today. I appreciate your help.

Yes Dough, it seem you have a little dot beside "Edit's Family" indicating that any new keyword will be added there. So do as Rikk suggested and you will be fine.

Haha.. it's kind of creepy the way you put that, as if you can actually *see* my screen !lol But yes Rikk.. I did indeed have that problem, and now it's solved, you genius you ! Thanks a million bud! Guess I must have done that by accident.
