So I had been using a 7DMkII where I had 2 cards and would shoot a jpg and a cr2 to 2 cards. I then used a 6DMkII where I had the setting set to make a jpg and cr2 to the single card. When I imported the pictures I thought I moved the cr2's to external drive while importing and converting to dng which I thought I imported to Lightroom. However, I just noticed while looking at the Lightroom pic's there is DNG+JPG for each picture. What does that mean? Are the 2 formats now combined into 1 picture? Stumped. tks much!

so in doing a little poking around , I think it means that there is 1 jpg and 1 dng picture and both have been imported into Lightroom? If I look in the directory containing the pictures, I see 1 format of each.

In Lightroom preferences, on the "General" tab if the checkbox labeled "Treat JPEG files next to raw file as separate Photos" is UNCHECKED, then Lightroom will create the JPEG associated with the RAW file as a sidecar file and import both but only catalog the RAW file and the JPEG is listed as a Sidecar in the metadata panel.

so I see sidecar files as jpg in the metadata info. how can I separate the 2 and ditch the jpeg? Is it easy or possible? The a lot - much appreciated.

ok, I found an ancient post from 2012 covering the topic that I missed in the search. Turns out I was just dealing w/ 13 pics before I had changed the setting on the camera to shoot only raw. Victoria had mentioned a fix then someone else suggested putting the ck mark you mentioned to treat jpgs as separate(which I did after you mentioned above) and I resynced folder and removed the jpgs. Good exercise here.
