Lightroom Version Number
LR Classic. 12.3, LRcc 6.3.1
Operating System
  1. macOS 13 Ventura
After backing up my LR Classic catalog on shutdown, with 8000 images synced to LRcc, LR cc is showing some 11,000 Smart Previews (some in this Deleted folder are Originals, but mostly SPS) covering images going back years, in the Deleted folder (Collection?).
Does LR Classic need these SPSs or are they also included in the the catalog .smartpreviews data in LR Classic?

Did you at one time change the Lightroom Classic catalog that was synced to the cloud? If you sync a different catalog, then Lightroom will download everything that is already in the cloud as a new image. It sounds like that is what happened here.

Yes I did. I made the mistake of deleting all synced photos before I had cleared all my collections of their syncing tag. So I lost the contents of those collections. I then re-started LR Classic using an earlier backup of the one catalog I use. That brought back many of the collection contents. After that I have bumbled around getting more contents back. However, I then closed LRc , backing up the catalog in that process. So I now have a new version of the catalog.

I am slowly getting things sorted out, moving albums in LR classic “Imported from Cloud” collection to replace the old empty collections. But I need to know if I should restore all the Smart Previews that have arrived in the Deleted folder of LRCC.

Thanks for your reply.
