Hi,

I've checked "use smart previews instead of originals" in the preferences. But, lightroom is still loading it's original RAW file. I've built smart previews for all RAW files and What am I doing wrong here?

When I navigate through the images in library mode, images take some time to load. In the histogram it shows both original + smart preview. And in the navigator it's loading the full image. When using a smart preview (2560px) than the 1:1 preview would be 2560px right?

Could anyone explain?
Thanks

Paul is correct. Smart Previews are not used at all in the Library module. So if you've only built Standard Previews and you then zoom to 1:1 in Library, there will be a "loading" delay while the 1:1 preview is generated.

ah..ok good to know the difference between the 'smart' & 'standard' previews. I've build standard previews now. It's def quicker than before! Still not quick enough to cull all wedding images in LR. Any tips to speed things up more? I've got the catalog files on an SSD.

Thanks,

If you need a 1:1 view to cull in Library, you could pre-build the 1:1 previews during import. Yes, it'll elongate the import process but should speed up the subsequent culling process, i.e. you should have instant loading of the 1:1 view. Or, quicker still (but dependant upon your camera type) would be to load the embedded previews when importing. No initial previews are generated, the import process instead loads the jpeg previews that are embedded by most cameras into the raw files. I say dependant upon the camera type, as sadly not all camera manufacturers embed full resolution jpegs, so their effectiveness when a 1:1 view is needed may be limited. Canon and Nikon do embed a full resolution jpeg in most of their cameras, Fuji and Olympus don't (or didn't last time I checked), not sure about Sony.

Or you could buy something like PhotoMechanic to do your culling before importing into Lightroom.
