Smart Collection with Keywords Question/Issue...

I have a smart collection "Has No Keywords" that looks at all photos in a general collection "Current Work" for all of those whose Keywords "are empty". If the photos in the "Current Work" collection have associated .xmp files, then the smart collection works, but if there is no .xmp file, it doesn't work. Is this the way that the smart collection rules are supposed to work?

I am running Windows 7 64-bit, and Lightroom 2.5 64-bit.

I was using ImageIngester Pro to copy images from the card to the hard drive and have been applying an Adobe Camera Raw preset which created an .xmp file for each of the images. I was then importing them into Lightroom. I now have been using Lightroom to copy from the card and importing, but have not been applying any presets or adding any keywords or anything else, and this is when the smart collection started failing.

When you get the Import dialog box, look closely at lower left of the dialog box. Shure there are no keywords there or any in any preset?

Hi Denis,
Under Information to Apply, the Develop Settings are None, Metadata is None, Keywords are blank and Initial Previews are 1:1.

OK, so I optimized my catalog, and now the smart collection is working! What kind of "magic" occurs when a catalog is optimized?

I once read a description of the process, but I can't find the reference now. As I recall, optimization consisted of a verification/repair of referential integrity and a compaction of sparse structures. I presume SQLite folks might have more to say about that.
