Slow loading - not responding

In recent weeks it takes a while for Lightroom to load and I get a 'not responding' notice. I have my main images and that catalog and the Lightroom program on M.2 SSD (and a separate bunch of images, and catlaog on external hard drive) and it does not matter which catalog I have loaded on opening the program. It might take a minute or so to initially load and become responsive. Originally it was just a few seconds. I built my PC with photo processing as its' central task a year ago. This is the only program with the slow loading problem.

Suggestions?
