Slideshow looping problems

Has anyone any experience of the Slideshow looping when part way through a slideshow? Frequently I will get partway through slideshow and it will return the the first slide and start again. If I select the slide where it had looped and try to start again it may play 3 - 1' slides then loop again from the second start point. Very frustrating! This problem occurs irrespective of the number of images in the Slideshow, it can occur after 5 slides of 2' or 75 of 1''. I played over 3'' in a slideshow without hitch so it is clearly a bug of some sort. I am on LR 2.2, 3.'6 Imac etc, but this also happened with earlier versions. Any ideas?

Welcome Archie, yes this is a known issue and at this stage is a work in progress. Nothing much to be done at the moment though.
Meantime can you please fill in your signature with system info etc, helps us help you (UserCP, top left of the page) thanks.

The canonical solution is a complete 1:1 render of all the images in the slideshow, so try that first. That said, as Geoff says, bugs are also being reported.

I also have this looping problem. Does it also occur if the slideshow is exported in .pdf? I only bought the program so I could create slideshows and am not impressed to find this looping bug, which basically renders the slideshow feature unusable, is a "known issue". Where and/or when is the fix, or how do I get my money back!!

Hi Chuggett, welcome to the forum!

No, it doesn't affect the pdf. Have you rendered standard or 1:1 previews for all of your files? That's usually the cause and solution.

Which version of Lightroom are you using? And Windows or Mac? Most members here put their system specs in their signature under User CP on the menu bar above, to save repeating themselves.

Thanks for the reply. I have edited my signature as per your suggestion. With respect to the looping problem, I rendered standard "medium" size previews for the files. Should I change these to 1:1? I am also having a problem adding text to my slides. The text overlay menu in the right hand menu panel doesn't seem to work. I can check and uncheck the text overlay box, but nothing else in the text overlay sub-menu seems to work. If I use the top line menu, then under the "Slideshow" drop down menu I can add a "Text Overlay" which puts the text box at the bottom of the slide with the words "DEFAULT TEXT OVERLAY", but I can't seem to edit the actual text! What am I doing wrong? Finally, I must have hit the wrong key combination while trying to edit the text because now the program has pushed the windows "Minimize/Maximize/Overlay Window" button in the upper right hand corner and I now can only operate in full screen mode. I think I have enlarged the program somehow and the windows toolbar has been pushed off the top of the screen. Any help much appreciated.

Just try it chuggett... select the slideshow files in Grid view and go to Library menu > Previews > Render 1:1 Previews and wait for it to finish, and then try running the slideshow again.

The missing buttons - press F, you're in full screen mode.

And the text - do you want the same text on each slide, or different on each?

Victoria: You're batting 1'' so far! The 1:1 rendering seems to have fixed the looping problem and the "f" key got me out of full screen mode. Why don't they have that option on the dropdown menu? As for the text, I want to add different text on each photo. Thanks again for the help.

chuggett, try Menu > Window > Screen Mode for that first question.

The way custom text for individual images in a Slide Show works, is by incorporating pieces of metadata from the images. There's no separate mechanism for tracking that custom data. Therefore, you would have to pre-populate the image metadata with the appropriate text data. Typically one would use the IPTC Caption field for this, but there are other non-standar fields one could use in a pinch.

So take your first slide in Library Module, and enter the desired text metadata in the Caption Field, 'Heidi Klum breaks pinata at Prince Charles' Birthday Jubillee'.

Then, in Slideshow, click on the 'ABC' at the bottom of the image, and select Caption from the dropdown to its right, which should position the caption text, in a draggable/sizable box on the slide. Adjust color, font, opacity, etc.


Ooops, just noticed that you're at LR 1.3. I don't have that version installed, so I can't tell if what I've told you works for that version. The oldest version I have available is 1.4.1, and both the Screen Mode, and Slide Show mechanisms are the same there.

Yep, that should work for 1.3 too.
