long story short.
was going to load my catalogue from my laptop onto my desktop PC but instead went ahead and just added the folders instead.
so after adding folders such as '2''7', '2''8' and '2''9' there are some pictures that have the following error...sidecar file has conflict.

can any1 explain what this means? can i fix it or remove it?

What that means is the information for a file in the catalog is in conflict with what is written in the sidecar file.
This is remedied by either reading the metadata from the sidecar or writing to the sidecar from the catalog.
Which of course depends on which is the most current......... You may want to back up your catalog or make a copy of it first as the read or write metadata to/from sidecars is not undoable.

thanks for that!
just looked at it again and when i choose the photos with the ---sidecar error---, the histogram loads after a few seconds and the error disappears and instead three little dots appear which when hovered over with the mouse say ---loading...---

after that i did a test on a few photos and tried to both read the metadata AND write the metadata but LR just came back with an error :( saying that ---writing XMP metadata did not complete successfully---

something else to mention is that some of these photos were imported for the FIRST time and they are jpgs with NO XMP sidecar.

its all very weird to me.

maybe the old catalogue is giving errors as i re-imported EVERYTHING again to start out fresh.

what do you think?

First try optimising the catalog.
Next I would try a new catalog and import some folders (with the issue) from the problem catalog and see if the issue transfers.

i ended up starting a new catalogue and have re-imported all my photos (mostly now) and things seem to be ok.
thanks for the help!!

ps, its cool how all my ratings, words and color stuff has come up again :)

That is good to hear, thanks for the update.:cheesy:
