I'd like the ability in the Develop module to have a completely different picture in the "before" pane to reference while doing adjustments in the "after" pane.

This would allow me to "harmonize" two separate pictures that need to be displayed together but were shot under slightly different lighting conditions.

I like that idea Jim!

Closest workaround I can think of at the moment would be to have 2 images in Grid/Compare/Survey mode and use Quick Develop, but your option would be better still.

I agree... this sounds like a great idea. I have run into similar situations when processing images, and it would be nice to see large versions of the two images while working in Develop on one of them.

Yes, I have seen this requested before, and I think it is an essential feature. At the top of my list.
