Sharpenning via a plug-in?

Howdy Lightroomians,

Just wanted to know what consistent users of LR1.4.1 have thought about using a plug-in such as "focus magic" to fine tune photos in terms of sharpenning more than what is available with LR. I'm very new to LR and have a couple of photos of Bald Eagles, taken at 6' yards away while the Eagle was beginning a low soar. I'm told that no question asked is no question answered. Any Thoughts?

And if it's okay, how would one install? Or if not, what would be a good starting point for sharpenning via LR?

Also, I've been impressed with LR's preset's. Is that a wrong place to start for viewing images to get an idea of a raw format file should or might look like?

Hi vegasvic, welcome to the forum!

It's not possible to use plugins like Focus Magic within LR yet, although you can set Photoshop as an External Editor and take the photo into Photoshop to run the plugin. Some programs also have standalone versions that can be used as External Editors. They don't work on raw data though - the file will be rendered first, so make all of your other adjustments first.

You may also find the Clarity slider useful on those kinds of shots.

The presets are a great starting point for many photos, so it's always worth playing.

Howdy Victoria,

Thanks a-bunch for your helpful answers. It is always best to seek the advice of more experienced users. Once again thanks for looking and sharing.
