Sharpening at Import...RAW files

I shoot with a D2'' which, when shooting jpeg, requires a little in camera sharpening to render really sharp images. When shooting RAW most of the in camera settings do not carry over to post processing software (unless you are using Capture NX).

So, for best results, should I be applying a sharpening step at import? If so, how much?

Raw files have a sharpening of 25 already set by default unless you've changed the defaults. The sharpening value of 25 is camera specific, so you may find it's already in the right ball park.

Thank you... I haven't searched around yet, but will...how do I change default settings? And, while I think I know the answer can defaults be changed to:

1. Change the Folder sort order to sort from either ascending or descending?
2. Can the default Crop Ratio be changed to 8x1'?

Here's how you change the default settings (from LR help):

1. Open Presets preferences, and then select whether you want the camera serial number and the camera ISO setting to be included in the defaults.
2. In Develop module, select a raw file, change settings, and choose Develop > Set Default Settings.
3. Choose Update To Current Settings.

For your situation, step one would be useful if you wanted to vary the settings such as noise reduction by ISO. I haven't tried it, but I believe you could include an 8x1' crop ratio in your default settings but not folder sort order.
