Setup guidance: Preserving Metadata & Keywords

In order to get a good start with the LR2 Beta, I'm trying to sort out a few processes before moving into trial and error mode:

1. After installing LR2, "import from disk". I understand that this will create a new "Catalog" specific to the LR2 beta without affecting the existing LR catalog content.

2. I would like to have access to the previously applied keywords, metadata, and ratings. If this requires specific settings within the earlier LR 1.3.1 for this to work, what are they? Currently,under File > Catalog Settings . Metadata, "automatically write changes into XMP" is not checked. Should it be?

Be really really careful with this Bob. It's a beta - with bugs - potentially dangerous bugs! The recommendation is that you only use it for testing, and even then only on duplicate files. And your 2.' beta catalog may not upgrade to the 2.' final release, and not all changes will behave in the same way, particularly local correction.

Warning given, if you want to see those settings in your 2.' catalog, you'd select all in 1.3.1 catalog, hit Ctrl-S to write everything to XMP (keywords, metadata, ratings will be carried across but history, virtual copies, collections etc won't). And then they should appear when you import into a 2.' beta catalog. If they're already in the 2.' beta catalog, select all and go to Metadata > Read Metadata from Files.

But I repeat, it's at your own risk. It's an early beta!
