Setting Lightroom 2 Default Profile

With the release of Lightroom 2 and the new camera profiles I have decided to completely redo my catalog of about 9,''' photos shot with various cameras; Ricoh, Olympus, Nikon and Canon.

I would like to set default profiles for the various cameras to be applied at import, but as far as I can tell I can only set one default profile at a time. I am aware that I can create presets for the various cameras but I prefer to use a direct default setting.

What I've been using as a workaround it to identify the images shot with each camera in Bridge, set the default profile for that camera, and then import the images shot with that particular camera. Is there another method that I'm not aware of? My current method is fairly time-consuming.

The profiles I want to use are as follows:
Ricoh: Adobe Standard beta 1
Olympus: Adobe Standard beta 1
Nikon: D2X mode 1
Canon: Camera neutral beta 1

Go to Preferences/Presets and check "Make Defaults specific to camera serial number"

Now select an image from each camera, go to Develop and set your Profile (only the profile, all other settings to default), Press "Alt" and now the button at the right corner changes to "Set Default...". Save your setting and do the same with the other images.

Aha...thanks Juergen...seems that will work quite well since the profile is matched to a specific camera. I'll give that a try later.

Also, when the beta profiles from Adobe get upgraded to non-beta, then what?

You would need to change them as well by selecting them by model or serial number and applying the profile in the calibration tab while autosyncing

The same as above for all images I would presume but who know what the team may come up with in the future, my crystal ball is a bit hazy to tell!!:cheesy::cheesy:

Thanks Jurgen and Kiwi - totally cool information. I was wondering what the purpose of using the new profiles could be, when what one might be seeking in a RAW file is the basic, un-messed with information. And then I tried one. It reminded me of how much I thought the various profiles we could apply in RS Pro were so great. I'm hooked.

Hi James, that's what is so smart about these profiles.
I noticed that you're on LR 1.4.1.
The new profiles only work on the trial and full versions of LR2.
