Sending Photos From One Catalog To Another

Hi

I have recently started a blog and created a new catalog to be used exclusively for photos that I will post. Often, when posting, I will use an old image from my previous catalog. I would like these photos to be present in the new "blog only" catalog.

Is there an easy way I can incorporate a photo from the old catalog into the new one.

The .dng file can stay in it`s original location and if necessary I could do without the photo being in the original catalog.

Hello,

The easiest would be not to use a special blog catalog but to stay in your ordinary catalog. Instead use keywords and smart collections. Mark all your possible blogpics with "blogpics" (or something similar) and then create a Smart Collection that searches for that word. Then you create an export preset that you use whenever you decide to put a certain photo on your blog. You can also use this plug-in (<http://korta.nu/4fb7&gt to export directly to your blog. When you have used a photo in your blog change the keyword (to blogged?) or add another keyword or give them a certain color label (only to be used for this). In that way you can easily search for photos that you have allready used.
Keywords and Smart Collections is the way to go I think.

If you want to use a special catalog for your blogpics I would (in the old/previous catalog) choose my blogpics (once again I would add a keyword for searchability), export them with a preset to a certain folder on my HD (always the same) and then in the blog-catalog I would ctrl-klick (on mac) / right-klick (on PC) on that folder in the folderpanel and choose "synchronize folder" and import the newly added photos.

There is no easy way to move photos from one catalog to another. This, among other reasons, is why most people only use a single catalog.

I agree with Bosse, the smartest way to handle this is to create a keyword in your main catalog for your blog pictures.

Or if you're set on using a separate catalog, using the Export as Catalog and Import from Catalog tools would be the other alternative. I'd go with the keyword/collections suggestion too though.

I'll check out the export/import functions Victoria, sounds like that might be the easiest.

With regard to using keywords and collections. I've been using LR for about three years now, keyword extensively, and have often wondered myself why some people used more than one catalog. In my own case the decision had a lot to do with the way I organize my workflow and how I use keywords/stars in my day to day photography, plus it just kind of feels right.

I use two catalogs and really at times it is a pain. I do it as they are reasonably large When my new Mac arrives, it's back to one!!Collections I use frequently and would seriously suggest you give this option a big look.
