Saving Print Template Question

Greetings all.

Hopefully this is easy to answer; I'm slightly stuck. LR 1.4, and I don't yet have a printer. I've created a custom print template: 5 pics in a row, in a landscape print 22 x 5 inches (a looong print, 5 pics from left to right). Not too uncommon, especially for broken panoramics.

However, when I save the template, it saves as a horizontal print, and the cell spacing and cell grid settings get lost. I have to re-orient into landscape mode and reset all the spacings. It's not hard to fix, but a bit annoying to recreate the template exactly as I created it.

My question: am I missing something when I save the template that would prevent this minor headache? I'm hitting command-S to save, but it seems to want to save it in it's own format - vertical, not horizontal, and without spacing settings.

Many thanks in advance.

Manny,

Try this:

Under Print Module Menu > Print > New Template (give it a name)

Adjust your print settings the way you want them.

In the template browser Right-Click on the new template you created. From the context menu, select "Update with Current Settings". I'm looking at a template I created called "Test 2" which has seven spaced cells with a landscape form factor. I am able to reuse the template with different photo selections, both before and after a LR restart.

I think this solves your problem. If I've missed the whole point somehow, feel free to clarify.

:D
The saving of templates, presets and the like is not entirely consistent throughout the application. The fact that questions like this arise fairly frequently is an indication the UI can still stand some tuning.

We'll have to see if LR2 final brings improvements.
