save metadata directly in the file

i have a question
when i save metadata in lightroom , it makes a sidecar *.xmp with the same name

is there a option to save directly in the file?
i mean raw files

does lightroom make sidecars for jpb too?

This can only happen if you convert the raw files to dng.
For jpegs the info is saved within the file not in a sidecar.

Giovanni, the reason you can't save info directly back into a RAW file, is because the RAW file formats are proprietary (secret, undocumented) and different between different camera manufacturers. It wouldn't be safe to write information back into a file whose format is not public, and could change from camera version to version.

All of the other file types are extremely well documented industry standards, so it's fairly safe to make changes to them.
